Springfield IL Police Officer Christopher Walter WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!?!?

ChrisWalter
Meet Springfield Police Officer Christopher Walter. Officer Walter here has been employed by the City of Springfield for 21 Years and Makes $77.074.40 a year!

We first shared to you this story on our FaceBook Page from a reader named Todd Miller and his comment. “Officer Chris Walter with the southern view police department was acting outrageously last night during the RT 66 Mother Road Show Parade. He was recklessly speeding in and out of parade traffic along with pulling in front of oncoming traffic (HES ACTUALLY WITH THE SPRINGFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT  – SPRINGFIELD EXPOSED EDIT) almost ran over several children just because someone was doing a burnout. Chris Walter all of that is not necessary for a traffic violation. You put several peoples lives in danger and was seriously out of control.

A follow up email was sent to us today see below.

Cyler of Capitol City Motorsports begs:
I want to thank everone who came out and had a great time at the cookout and route 66 parade at my shop on Friday night. As many people witnessed we had officer Chris Walter of the Springfield police department become an unbelievable danger to the children and public enjoying the parade that was in front of my shop, when he excessively sped his car within inches of many children that were busy retrieving candy. All to pursue water that was being poured in the street. The officer aggressively told us that the next person to put litter in the street will be arrested. I then stated to the officer that the only dangerous thing all night was his dumb aggressive driving, speeding up here and almost hitting several kid’s. He then detained me and put me in his squad car. After being half ass searched my cell phone, pocket knife, flashlight and wallet was seized from my pockets and then as I was being placed back in the sqaud car I told the officers calmly that I also had a firearm on me. After having my firearm removed from my body an officer went over to the crowd of 100+ people and held my loaded firearm up In the air and stated that “This man was Intoxicated and carrying a firearm” this is totaly not true and I was definently not intoxicated. This was a huge degradation to my character and an Invasion of my privacy to carry a concealed weapon. I was charged with disorderly conduct and had my firearm seized. I will also have my concealed permit and foid card possibly taken away. I want to sincerely thank every one for defending me and raising way more than enough cash to get me bailed out of jail. The cash will definently be going toward food next year, heck we maybe having steaks.

TO EVERY ONE THAT WAS ATTENDING THE PARADE IN FRONT OF MY SHOP. please i ask that you bring any video footage of the police illeaglly arresting me in to me or post it on facebook or somthing. i went to file a complaint today and somehow none of the video equipmet was on in any of the 10+ police cars that were on scene when i was unlawfully arrested. HMM isnt that convenient for them. the officer also deleted my recording when he confiscated my phone that would of had great audio. i know there was alot of people with phones recording me being very compliant with the police officer so i need these videos so very badly to prove my inocence and as of right now i we only have 1 video with not a great view.
NEXT i know there was tons of people that had there child almost run over because of this officers reckless driving. i ask that if this truely did happen to your child as we all seen it did, please please call the Internal Affairs Department at 788-8380 and go thru with your complaint. so maney people that were there had stated they would be doing this. so please please do this. Cuyler Coleman

WOW Wait a minute what happened??? We reached out to the City of Springfield, but as of this evening no response was sent back to us.

Obviously there is two sides to every story, but a lot of people are coming to back Mr. Coleman on this… Lets share this and see if we can get some attention on this matter and get the Springfield Police to do something!

Springfield Exposed will gladly collect all photographs and videos of this incident. You may submit them to us via Facebook or our email at springfieldilexposed@gmail.com . 1. So glad I got the hell out of the state of il ugh

  2. Is this the same drunk guy that was doing burnouts that ended up having a gun?

    • he was not doing burnouts He and evryone he invited was in front of his place of business standing on the side of the road watching the parade. A lot of people had their children there who were collecting candy thrown from parade participants the officer pulled up on the inside lane entirely way too fast with all the children standing there his demeanor and attitude was very angry the owner let the officer know about the dangers that he just put onto the people that were at his establishment not cussing or yelling but very stern. Every single person around was on the owner side. The officer was way out of line and he knew it the officers demeanor and attitude changed 180 degrees once he seen everybody with video cameras. Other officers on the seen even said it was handled wrong and to file with internal affairs.

    • Hey now, no need to get upset. Jut asking a question based upon what came across the scanner

    • I guess they get upset like that when you bring real facts to their make believe story!

    • … You call someone stupid for not reading but you can’t even type grammatically correct.

    • Nick sorry for my attitude I shouldn’t of came at you like that. I was there first hand and my daughter was one of the children. She was balling she was so scared of the way the officer pulled up and presented hisself. I do not want my child thinking badly of law enforcement and it was a poor example put forward. And for Che were you there????? No ok so who’s telling a story? Louis sorry teach.

    • Donald, it appears you work (according to your FB page) at the very same place the incident happened at. Your opinion is null and void.

    • My opinion is null and void???ha ha ha were you there???? NO … Ok you tell it how you seen it dumb ass.

    • And no I do not work there anymore but he is a very good friend of mine and one of the nicest people i know. You go ahead and make your bias argument . I don’t give a fuck what you think or or who you blow.

  3. Drunk guy doing burn outs and oh by the way, has a gun on his hip… Shame on that officer for trying to get this individual off the street.

Other officers on the scene even said it was handled wrong and to file with internal affairs.

    • Were you there????? No ok end of discussion.

  4. According to the police report he was not drunk… please read story before making open ended comments.

  5. Dumb. The dangerous individuals were the ones doing burnouts and speeding down the parade route.

    • With THEIR OWN CHILDREN present. All while intoxicated.

    • The parade participants were the ones doing the burnouts. He and his guests were just watching the show I was one of them. Yes some people at the business were pouring water on the road before the officer pulled up entirely way too fast with 20 to 30 children standing on the curb. All it would have taken was one for the kids to walk off that curb for a piece of candy that the parade participants were throwing and we would have had a tragedy all because this officer was pissed off because of water being put in the street. When he pulled up his demeanor and attitude was very angry he did not change until video cameras were taken out then his attitude flip 180°

  6. The police report is PUBLIC RECORD! The drunken idiot he arrested apologized over and over in the squad car on the way to jail. When asked by the jailer why he was arrested the idiot said (and I quote) “for being a drunken idiot.” Get the facts people! Support your police officers! Not these trailer people!

  7. Soooooooooooo what your telling me is that a Police Officer Almost did something and then a dumb guy got arrested for actually doing something illegal and then complained about it and wrote the story up like he was the victim for doing something stupid.

    • He was standing on his place of business that he invited everyone to come and watch the show at. The officer pulled up in the inside lane way to fast with 20-30 children standing by watching for candy . The owner who was arrested was only telling the officer about his reckless actions over water, he was not cussing or yelling but was very stern when telling the officer of the danger he put the kids in. Me on the other hand was pissed and not being so nice with my words. See my daughter was one of the older ones that was retrieving candy for the younger kids if she would of walked off that curve at the wrong time and this officer would have hit her I guess it would be justified OVER FUCKING WATER!!! This officer was way out of line with the way that he approached the situation until he seen video cameras.

    • So your threatening to kill a police officer For a what if Sanrio ? Where’s your head at!

    • I guess if we were not talking about a what if Sanrio you would justify my daughter being killed because of someone putting water i the street. . Look I have a deep respect for law enforcement and would be the first one to help one out if he or she was in distress. My choice of word is not my best of attributes . But the whole situation gets me pissed when I look back at it.

  8. Oh I love seeing people on here with their opinions but were you there?

  9. If my memory serves me correctly….I is illegal to be in possession of a firearm at public gathering, esp. where alcohol is being served.
I think there is more to this story than what has been published here. AND, Of course, no one is ever drunk or drinking……yea right.
I have known Officer Walter for many years and ALWAYS found him to be SAFETY minded and a GOOD Police officer..

You just got caught Dude….If I were you, I would b more worried about carrying concealed at a public gathering ! Where booze was present..

    • He never said he was or wasn’t drinking. He said he wasn’t intoxicated. Stop putting your own words into the story. Your opinion who this officer is. You obviously have a problem with cc. Your opinion. I’m sure there is video out there to support both sides. Your speculation does nothing but show your ignorance.

      • It doesn’t matter, you cannot be concealed carrying and consuming alcohol period. So IF he was, then he was in violation of the law.
And he was also in violation by these standards: Public gatherings and special events on property open to the public that requires a permit issued by a unit of local government (street fairs, “taste of” events, festivals, etc.)
Any building or property issued a
Special Event Retailers License for the
        sale of alcohol

NOT defending the officer, just stating what the law is.

    • This was not a public event. This was private property and NO alcohol was being served. If you weren’t there to witness Cop Walters dangerous driving then don’t comment. He obviously is a hot headed cop. His behavior left a bad taste in everyone mind. Ferguson came to mind for a lot of us that night.

  10. So if this guy was doing burnouts would that be enough to detour the fact that he put a bunch of kids in danger with his actions?

  11. BOOM! Thank you, JW, for posting those facts on the CC. Also, living in the good ole’ US of A, gives us the right to have our own opinions. Ignorance is bliss. 🙂

  12. I come from a small town of 10,000. The police there are truly out of control when it comes to rights violations. So to move here and see that every single cop isn’t out to get you for no reason is very refreshing. Other than Grand View that is.

  13. The man arrested was in front of his own shop enjoying the parade like everyone else. All he did was put water on the street for cars to do burn outs. Which supposedly other cops there were allowing. There are many people coming forward about the officer driving reckless, almost hitting several children and adults. Mr Coleman stood up for everyone who was trying to enjoy the parade!

  14. This was not a public event, as in Street Fairs. No licenses needed to be obtained to have people watch a parade on private property. There was no alcohol being sold or food for that matter. Where do you people come up with this stuff? I was there. The ONLY dangerous event that took place was when Cop Walter drove dangerously up to a crowd of people with lots of little kids grabbing candy from the parade. Kids were screaming and crying because they thought they were getting run over. From a cop no less. When Mr Coleman told the cop he just about killed a bunch of kids because of his driving the cop immediately put him in the squad car. What was Mr. Coleman arrested for? Putting water on the street or did he call the cop out on his behaviour? I was there. There are videos of exactly what was said. And btw you can carry conceal and carry on private property. If you weren’t there, don’t chime in. I’m hoping the parents with the upset kids file complaints against this cop. There are video’s of kids screaming and crying because of Cop Walter’s nearly running over the crowd. THAT IS THE ISSUE HERE. Not Mr. Coleman pouring water on the pavement or carrying a conceal on private property. Again, if you weren’t there, keep your opinion to yourself.

  15. A petition needs to be started on moveon.org about the officers obvious (and dangerous) abuse of power.

  16. Oh gee, an unstable, reckless, violent, pushy, overcompensating bully with an squad car and some handcuffs? Where have I heard that one before…

The fool’s lucky no kids got hurt.

  17. Culyer was putting on a family friendly event supplying food, chips and cookies for the kids. Everyone was enjoying aa watching the cars and enjoying the food and music. We all witnessed the reckless behavior of the police officer going against traffic and cutting across the intersection to harass some one for squealing their tires. Such a terrible crime!!!!. My son was right on the curb grabbing candy along with at least a dozen more kids. The right lane was not being used so the kids were not in harms way and if the candy was not at the curb an adult would grab it for them. All of the sudden the officer in question comes flying at least 45-50 mph in the right lane that was open to assert his authority on people just trying to have fun. My son was one of the children that was crying and very upset by the actions of Barney bad ass. He could of done what he thought he needed to do with out endagerjng the kids luckly a little one did not try to grab some candy as he sped by with no lights or sirens by the way. I had to have a friendly cop console my son and tell him every thing was OK. We suporrt the police and we at the k9 event earlier in the week and enjoyed it very much trying to show that police officers are not always arresting people and are good people. This officer just lost his head not saying he is a bad cop just that his actions were very questionable. Also for all of you commenting that were not there and do not know the details I never saw Cuyler with a adult beverage he was to busy cooking and making sure everyone was having a good time oh yeah and pouring water in the street he actually might of cleaned some of the filth of that section of road, so terrible. And people wonder why Springfield has so few food events held here.

  18. First off…it was not a public event. He was on his own property right in front of “his” shop. He does operate a business that closes at a later time at night. He does carry a valid foid and cc permit which by law he has every right to carry. Especially on his own damn property. He carries no alcohol sales permit so how could be selling it. Oh, did I mention he was on his own property!!! Wow…There’s reasons why people like you have no reason to carry a firearm. I wasn’t there but I’m sure he was smart enough to keep it concealed. He did the lawful way and voluntarily told the officer he had a firearm and a cc permit. This story just Pisses me off every time I read it. And of course springfield pd will cover it up as always. Just like we never see them doing anything wrong.

  19. Not all cops are heroes. Some are douchebag bullies with questionable judgement.

  20. There are two sides to every story… I am sure the truth will be revealed weather it is the side of Mr Coleman or Mr Walter. All sides should be heard before judging anyone! I for one know Mr Walter personally and he has never been a hot head and has been a wonderful police officer that serves his community very respectfully. That being said I was not there so I am not saying what happened was or was not wrong. We are not judge and jury, both sides should be heard first.

  21. as a CCW permit holder I have asked the Il. State Police website freq asked questions forum about drinking while carrying. Their reply was that the legal threshold of .08 is the guide line for carrying the same as driving so those responding that there is 0 tolerance for drinking while CCW need to learn the laws.

  22. It was also illegal for the officer to go into his phone and delete anything from it without a warrant this is now a violation of civil rights! The Supreme Court made it a law that police can not go into anyone’s phone without a warrant signed by a judge just as they would have to have to search your home!

  23. I was there with my children. I witnessed Mr Walter driving recklessly and I was very thankful that my child was at my side when he pulled in the way he did. His actions deserve a reprimand. We all have bad days and make mistakes but this was a very dangerous situation that should not be tolerated.

  24. Sounds like unfounded complaints. Get your videos, and show some proof. Too many people hating on those who serve and protect.

well i say that the officer should be guilty until proven innocent, just like we are(and would be) when we are stopped by and questioned or interrogated by officers etc, often! im sixk of these power hungry un-professional pigs! im sick to hell of being searched physically etc every single time im pulled over etc. by these damned pigs here, even though i have no record at all whatsoever, and have never once been arrested or anything, at all. harassment! i keep to myself and dont bother anyone or want to, and yet i still am singled out anytime im pulled over etc. to hell with these damn rookie pain-in-the-ass pigs!

  27. Here’s a f#*^ing idea… if one of those cars doing burnouts lost control and killed 20-30 people you’d be bitching “where were to cops to stop this”. You can’t have it both ways. The cops are there to protect, it’s not like they showed up and said “hey, who can we f!*^ with. Why were people throwing water in the street, was something on fire… Never mind it was to make the street safer by improving the traction of the tires so they couldn’t spin, my bad. You know why I can say these things, because I’m the guy who shows up to save people when things go wrong just like they could have at one of these burnout sessions. Need a lesson, watch youtube…

  28. Yes he pretty much did.

  29. In all the years and all of the car shows that have been ran out of this town have you ever heard of a car losing control and hitting 20-30 people…….No… oh okay.

  30. Mike Abbott I respect you and law enforcement very deeply and understand what your saying…but I was there first hand and the situation should of been handled totally different. Even other officers on the scene said the same.

  31. Hey Donald Padget, has your house ever caught on fire? If not I hope it doesn’t happen but people like me are trained to do something about it in case it does. Chance are it won’t but just like a car going out of control with a few hundred people standing around watching it there’s still a chance it could happen. Just like what’s the chance a tornado will hit, or a plane crash, or a school bus roll over. All slim but it still happens and although you feel the officer was wrong he was trying to protect everyone of you. Does he get it right 100% of the time, is he a human being? How many hundreds of times did he have to stop the same thing during the show to ensure safety? Before we crucify him let’s step into his shoes and see the picture from his perpesctive. I appreciate your respect for my as well as law enforcements job and we understand that you and your fellow citizens are there to enjoy yourself and watching cars do burnouts is part of that. Just remember we are tasked with keeping you, the public safe, and at times were not always at the top of our game because of what we deal with, we are also human beings who make mistakes. Heck when I was a teenager I can remember when Car Craft would be in town and standing in the Capitol City parking lot watching burnouts. At that age I didn’t care about safety but when I look back at that time period there were a lot of close calls. My response to your comments is to remind that we; firefighters, cops and paramedics are human and at times make judgement mistakes much like I’m sure you have.

  32. I totally agree with u. I am sure the officer is a good person he has been a officer for 20+ years and that would not be accomplished without knowing what he was doing. I think his emotions got the best of him that night and he used poor judgment. If it would of been handled differently there would of been a respectable out come to both parties I’m sure of… stay safe in the field and thank u.

  33. Another Victim of Walter's Abuse | December 18, 2015 at 6:48 pm | Reply

Read the following to help you determine whether or not Chris Walter is a reckless scumbag. I personally believe he is. This is an absolutely true story…

On 9-12-12, I was standing on the southwest corner of 7th and Capitol, in Springfield, waiting for a walk signal, for a crosswalk. I was waiting to walk from the southwest corner to the southeast corner of 7th and Capitol. I noticed a Springfield police car stopped at the stoplight, in the west bound lane on Capitol, signaling a left turn, to go south on 7th street. This would place the squad car into my crosswalk. Once the light turned green and the crosswalk sign went white (simultaneously), I proceeded into the crosswalk. As I was nearing the middle of the crosswalk, the squad turned into the crosswalk, nearly hitting me. I literally had to stop and jump backwards to avoid being struck by the right front corner of the squad car. As the officer drove past me, he raised both hands in the air and cocked his head, as if to say “Oh well.” By this time, the adrenalin rush hit me and I yelled out to the officer to watch what the f**k he was doing. He heard me, as his windows were rolled down. He then slammed on his brakes, turned on his overhead lights and got out of the squad car. He then proceeded toward me as I was nearing the opposite corner. He walked up to me and asked what my problem was. I told him, in a not so pleasant tone, that he had no right to get out of his car and detain me for exercising my 1st amendment rights. He stated that I was being detained and told me to give him my ID. I then got my driver’s license out and handed it to him. He then contacted dispatch and told them that he was out with a “SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT” I started laughing at him and told him he was full of S**T. He then asked for backup, and told dispatch I was becoming unruly. Of course I was upset, and was giving him an earful. This guy nearly killed me with his squad car! By now, my adrenalin is in full gear. However, I made no threats or provocations toward him, even as he attempted to bait me a few times. I just simply told him what an idiot he was, and the only reason he should have got out of his squad was to apologize to me. I then asked him the million dollar question. “Am I free to go? He stated no and then said that he was considering charging me with disorderly conduct. At that time, I told him that if he did so, he had better get a supervisor out to the scene, as there were zero citizens standing near the area. He then continued to run my name for warrants. When no warrants came back, he asked if I still wanted a supervisor. I then told him that if he handed my license back to me and sent me on my way, there would be no need, at that time, for a supervisor. He then handed me my license and told me to go.

    Who was the officer???

    You guessed correctly!!!

    Christopher Walter

I went to IA on 5th street, near South Grand, a few days later, to launch a report against Walter. Lt. Greg Williamson (alleged document shredder) spent 45 minutes giving me reasons I should not file against Walter, before finally deciding to put pen to paper, to take my statement. At that time, I got up and walked out, remembering that Springfield cops, in the past, have planted cocaine and other bogus evidence on innocent people.
If I would have known about this website, I would have posted this earlier. I now wish I had followed through with the IA report on this DOUCHE!!! It would have at least set a pattern for his actions.
