SPRINGFIELD, IL – Saturday, August 12th will be a day dedicated to our youngest fairgoers. Kids Day will feature special programming aimed at educating and entertaining kids of all ages.The Illinois State Fair strives to make the fair an enjoyable time for all ages, so kids 12 and under receive FREE admission! For our youngest fairgoers, this weekend is the best time to get out and enjoy the fairgrounds. Here are the top ten FREE activities on Kids Day that families with children should take advantage of:


1.    AmTryke Presentation


The American Business Club of Springfield (AMBUCS) will present AmTrykes to a few lucky fairgoers at 10:15 am in the Ag Tent.  These specially-engineered tricycles will enable children with special needs to experience the joys of riding a bike.  The smiles on the children’s faces are contagious; you won’t want to miss this presentation! 


2.    Thrillville


New to the Illinois State Fair this year, come join in the fun at Gate 2! Located on Brian Raney Avenue, families can enjoy FREE daily shows from extreme and exciting acts, such as the award winning Xpogo Stunt Team and Cirque Extreme.  Plus be sure to check out the Remote Controlled Micro-racing where you can win prizes and trophies daily!  These shows are a great opportunity for family fun and are sure to leave you on the edge of your seat!


3.    Roving Entertainment


Enjoy our many forms of roving entertainment. Bring the kids out to meet our Baby T-Rex. He will be roaming the grounds this year, getting up-close and personal with our fairgoers! Families can also enjoy Those Funny Little People. Since appearing on America’s Got Talent, they continue to make appearances and entertain by singing and dancing! Come catch one of their many shows or see them and many others roaming the fairgrounds this year. 


4.    Kid’s Korner


Located just up the road from Happy Hollow, in the south wing of the Emmerson Building, is the wacky, exciting, and just plain fun Kids Korner! Kids can get their face painted, play with exciting toys, and watch kid-friendly shows, all for FREE! It’s a great place for parents to sit back and relax while their kids explore.


5.    Festival Nation Series


Right when fairgoers arrive at the main gate of the grounds, they are greeted by the Happy Hollow sign, inviting families to explore the fun. Down in the Hollow this year, fairgoers can enjoy color throws, musical entertainment, foam parties, obstacle courses, inflatables and more, with prize giveaways all day long! These are all fun activities you don’t want to miss!


6.    Daily Parades


New this year from August 11th -20th, daily parades will be staged in the Gate 2 area and will travel North on Main, West on Illinois, North of the Sheep Barn and then South on 8th St. Celebrate the Illinois State Fair each day at 4:00 pm. Your kids will love this spectacular showcase.


7.    Farmer’s Little Helpers


Looking to learn more about Illinois’ #1 industry? Then head down Brian Raney Avenue to the Gate 2 area to learn about Illinois agriculture. At Farmer’s Little Helpers, kids learn by taking part in hands-on activities such as raising farm animals, tending to crops, and then taking the harvest to market. When the work is done, Farmer’s Little Helpers sell their bounty for a “Market Dollar” and then spend it at the Grocery Store for a tasty treat! 


8.    Special Events Contests


If you’re looking for an event in which your child can compete, check out one of the exciting special events taking place tomorrow. Sign up for the longest ponytail contest taking place at 2:00 pm at the Lincoln Stage. If you’re more creative, create a fun diaper for the decorated diaper contest at 3:00 pm, also on the Lincoln Stage. Immediately following is an event for the fast crawling kiddos, the diaper derby, where little tots race to the finish line on a safe carpeted area on the Lincoln Stage at 3:30 pm. All of these competitions are free to enter and fun for all. 


9.    Conservation World


On the far northwest side of the fairgrounds is the cool, shaded, fun, and FREE Conservation World, presented by the Department of Natural Resources. This area features two ponds and plenty of vendors to enjoy. Families can enjoy do-it-yourself tie dye, a rock climbing wall, free fishing clinics, and a safe archery and shooting range. There are also many free shows to entertain children and families. 


10.   Kids AG-tivity Tent


Located East of Main Street and Central Avenue, the Kids Ag-tivity zone will allow mom and dad a rest while the little ones PLAY! The learning and fun continues at the AG-tivity tent where kids can dig through corn, play games, color and play with tractors while learning more about agriculture.


There is so much fun to be had at the Illinois State Fair! It is a great place to spend the day with family and friends. When planning your day, make sure you leave time to explore these free activities and much more in your visit.
