As part of an undercover Decatur police investigation on people attempting to have sex with children, detective Todd Koester found an ad on Craigslist that said: “Looking for a young police officer,” according to an affidavit filed in court documents.
According to the affidavit the ad said in part, “I need me a bf and I so want to be in a relationship with a young gay police officer. I’m 25 and single and need a boyfriend and a good one.”
Detective Koester sent a message to him through the Craigslist email system, saying “he was a 14-year-old but liked dudes and cops,”.
The conversation went from email to text messages. During those subsequent text messages, “Evan discussed various sex acts that he wanted to perform with the 14-year-old upon meeting.”
Evan agreed to drive to Decatur “to pick up the 14-year-old for the purpose of a sexual relationship.”, when he arrived he was arrested.
Evan then admitted during a police interview that he “posted the ad on Craigslist and communicated with what he believed to be a 14-year-old for the purposes of a sexual relationship.”
Evan was being held in jail on $65,000 bond on charges of indecent solicitation of a child, two counts, and one count of traveling to meet a minor, each a Class 3 crime punishable by two to five years in prison. Plus he would of been ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
On February 17th, 2016 the Macon County States Attorney Dismissed the charges for the Federal Government to pickup charges.
