A man found dead last week in a shed behind a home on North 11th Street has been identified as Michael Moews, 25, of Springfield, the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office reported Monday.
The identification was made through dental records.
The remains of Moews’ body were found Wednesday morning when people at the home attempted to clean out the shed, which is in the 900 block of North 11th. Authorities said, based on the state of decomposition, that the body had been in the shed for months.
An autopsy on Thursday revealed no signs of foul play, but the investigation continues.
Springfield police last week said the remains were up against the door of the shed.
Moews was last seen in early March and was reported as a missing person on Aug. 8, deputy chief Dennis Arnold said Monday.
Moews’ last known address was at the home where his remains were found. He lived in the basement, Arnold said.
Authorities have not commented on a possible cause of death.
On Oct. 11, an inspector with the city of Springfield had written up the property for debris and weeds in the yard
